Dr. Dennis Hong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at McMaster University. He specializes in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Hong was born in Seoul, South Korea. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology from the University of Western Ontario in 1992. Dr. Hong received his medical degree (M.D.) from the University of Toronto in 1996. He completed his residency in the Department of Surgery, McMaster University Medical Centre in Hamilton, ON. Then in 2003, he completed a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at the Legacy Health System in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A.. He joined the Department of Surgery at McMaster University in 2010. The same year he became the Clinical Teaching Unit Director McMaster University as well as Associate Director, Centre for Minimal Access Surgery, St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton, ON.

Highly skilled in minimal access surgical techniques Dr. Hong regularly performs a variety of Laparoscopic procedures and 75% of his practice is focused on bariatric surgery.

Dr. Hong has received many honours and awards during his career including the Faculty of Classical Studies University of Western Ontario, Albert O. Jeffery scholarship, Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, Princess Margaret Hospital Education Scholarship, Korean-Canadian Educational Scholarship, McMaster University, Resident Research Award 1st Place, SAGES conference Poster of Distinction, University of Western Ontario Faculty of Biology Scholarship and McMaster University, Physicians’ Services Incorporated Award.
